How to make Puran Poli at home
Ganesh Chaturthi is here and it’s time to welcome Bappa with some homemade delicacies and what can be better than making that classic Maharashtrian-style breakfast at home. This classic sweet treat can also be offered as a prasad. So, follow us through some simple tips and tricks and nail this traditional delight at home.

Ingredients:
1 cup whole wheat flour, 1 cup maida, 1 pinch turmeric, salt as needed, 2tbsp oil, water as needed, 1 cup bengal gram, 1 cup jaggery, 1/2tsp cardamom, 1 pinch nutmeg powder, 2 tbsp ghee.

Step 1
To begin with this easy recipe, sift the flour and make a smooth dough by mixing wheat flour, maida, turmeric, salt and oil. Make a smooth dough. Cover and let it rest for at least 30–40 minutes.

Wash and soak and cook chana dal until soft but not mushy. Drain excess water and mash well.

Heat a pan, add mashed dal, grated jaggery, cardamom, and nutmeg. Stir continuously until the mixture thickens and leaves the pan. Let it cool completely.

Step 4
Divide dough into small balls. Roll one ball into a small circle, place a portion of puran (stuffing) inside, and seal carefully. Gently roll it out again into a thin, round poli.

Step 5
Heat a tawa, place the rolled puran poli, and cook on medium flame.

Apply ghee on both sides and roast until golden spots appear.

Serve warm with a dollop of ghee and jaggery.
