    Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) chief and wanted terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar arrived in Toronto with a fake passport 26 years ago. His plea claimed severe torture by Punjab Police and wrongful arrest.

    Nijjar was shot dead on June 18 by two unidentified gunmen outside a gurdwara in Surrey in the western Canadian province of British Columbia.

    Indian government rejected claims made by Canadian PM linking it to the assassination of Khalistani leader. The MEA termed the allegations ‘absurd ‘and ‘motivated’ in a statement.

    Projecting a passion for plants, he did his bachelors in agricultural science and post graduate degree in cytogenetics. He collaborated with researchers and students on a range of issues in basic and applied plant breeding, agricultural research and development and the conservation of natural resources.

    He served as the director general of Indian Council of Agricultural Research and later International Rice Research Institute, principal secretary of the ministry of agriculture in 1979, and the president of the International Union of the Conservation of Nature and Natural resources in 1988.
